The speed vs. cost leap to ASIC compare to their last generation of FPGAs was immense. One group with the possibility of controlling over 50% of the network was not an option to us, thus we have joined the fray.
Competition breeds innovation, with that we have set our goals high. Since the Avalon launched with a 50% speed advantage, competitors had no choice but to change their specs accordingly. This is good, but now let's see if they can keep up.
note: It is still possible for our unit's speed to increase. in addition to a secret that will only be revealed when the units are in customers hands.
The Avalon ASIC team consist of multiple people with 10+ years of ASIC experience under their belt including all design process.
Transparency has always been a major focus of ours. Avalon will manufacture by TSMC using 110nm process and packaged by Fujitsu. we will continue to release information as they become available.
note: First batch of 300 units have long been sold out, only when the shipping of the first batch starts we will be taking more orders.
Avalon, unlike our competitors whom quoted the date from third companies to customers. Avalon plan, and we set leeway for mistakes and problems. this is why we announced the original shipping date at the end of Feb, 2013, and now have moved up to mid-Jan after eliminating potential and actual problems.
note: Avalon will release in small batches of 300-500 every week to prevent back-order, however we will not be shipping during Chinese New Year, please bear with us. We will keep you posted.
